Nam June Paik Art Center offers a variety of programs to pursue its educational mission of “School for the Paperless Society” inspired by Paik’s writing entitled Expanded Education for the Paperless Society(1968) that emphasized the change in the method of education in a new paperless media world.
Our learning programs include NJP School for teachers and students, NJP Creative providing creative programs. NJP Academy offering arts and culture courses, Docent Courses intended to train professional volunteers and Culture Day offering the opportunity to experience art in everyday life.
NJP School
NJP School is a program for a class of elementary, middle or high school students and a group of students with disabilities as well as teachers. The program is aimed to help participants broaden understanding of Nam June Paik and contemporary art in connection with exhibition, stimulate different senses and share ideas with their peer group. NJP School consists of various programs for students, such as preliminary education program devised to help understanding of the exhibition, intensive appreciation program for exhibition viewing, a program encouraging a group disabled students to use different senses, and a program for mediators such as teacher’s workshop.
NJP Creative
NJP Creative invites participants to create diverse forms of art in collaboration with contemporary artists, while exploring themes that combine Nam June Paik, art, technology and media. The program aims to expand emotional communication and experience by highlighting multiple aspects of contemporary art. Occasional programs by genre and theme for families, adults, teens and kids are operated.
NJP Academy
NJP Academy offers contemporary art courses for the public. It is intended to explore the trends and themes that media art, which has continued so far while tracing Paik’s artistic journey, focuses on. Consisting of a total of 6 courses, NJP Academy provides courses on media art with different interesting themes in the first (April) and second (September) half of the year respectively, led by experts from diverse fields.
Docent Courses
Docent Courses is an in-depth educational program for teens and adults. This specialist training course for the public is designed to prepare volunteer docents to learn Nam June Paik and his art and provide a professional explanation for visitors through intensive education. Teens docent training course helps teens to have in-depth experience of art and make their own interpretation and explanation of contemporary art.
Culture Day
Culture Day is a once-a-month program for the public held in the last week of each month. Its thematic programs related to exhibitions held at Nam June Paik Art Center are designed to familiarize the public with contemporary art in their daily life. Culture Day programs include Curator Talk with curators who organize special exhibitions and Nam June Paik exhibitions and Artist Talk given by participating artists telling stories about their artwork, as well as performances that enable a better understanding of contemporary art.
