Nam June Paik often incorporated mixed alphabets and letters of Chinese, Korean, and English into his works. This calligraphic work contains strong cursive writing. Notable words are “love,” “every day,” and especially the first word, “Amor Fati,” in Chinese characters. Part of Nietzsche’s philosophy, the word refers to the love of fate, which is more than just accepting it but affirming and embracing it as one’s own, and cultivating it to grow into creativity. Interestingly, Paik added “AI,” which is Japanese pronunciation of ‘love’, in English next to 愛, to love.
