Nam June Paik often painted a TV set with simple squares, not only on the canvas but also on found objects such as papers, newspapers, and wooden panels. Entitled, 2 1/2 TV, this work uses a piece of wood in the form of a rightward arrow, on which Paik drew two and a half rectangles. Paik’s design-like paintings result from a process of artistically expanding and poetically expressing his exploration of television as an artistic medium.
